Many world travelers declare Nepal the
most beautiful country on the planet.
Many connoisseurs of Nepal rate the
Khumbu region the most beautiful spot in
this country. What is the attraction of
the Khumbu Himal?
For one it has the highest mountain on
earth, Mount Everest or Sagarmatha. If
that is not enough it boasts many other
giants including Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Pumori,
Ama Dablam, Kang Taiga, and Thamserku to
name a few. These are mountains of
unique character and beauty rarely found
elsewhere. Amidst these giants lies the
homeland of the sherpa people, the Khumbu. These rugged mountain valleys
are home to some of the world’s highest
settlements (4000 m and above). The Yak
plays a vital role in the life of the
inhabitants of these high altitude
environments. Livestock breeding and
trade with the bordering Tibet, and
tourism are the traditional sources of
income for the buddhistic sherpas.
Here you can cherish the irresistible
and unique grandeur of the high
mountains without having to set foot on
snow or ice.
The Khumbu offers the experienced
mountaineer accessible trekking peaks
like the Imja Tse Himal (formerly Island
Peak), Pokalde, Kongde, Mera, and
Naulekh.
The less ambitious visitor will find
magnificent hiking trails to explore the
diverse landscape of the many side
valleys.
There are different approaches and modes
of travel to reach the Khumbu. To save
time most visitors choose to fly into
Lukla/Phakdingma. Those visitors with
more time at hand may prefer other
options. |
