The Kanchenjunga Himal is a jewel in the
a high mountain region. A system of
paths links the valleys surrounding the
range. These beautiful valleys around
the third-highest peak in the world
didn’t open to trekkers until 1989. Even
though the trail doesn’t end in a
national park the travelers encounter a
wealth of fauna and grandiose forests.
In contrast to the Khumbu, this region
is much less populated. Yamphudin in the
Khabeli Khola and Phole (in Summer
Kambachen) are already the last
villages. While nobody lives in the
Yalung valley it is used as for
pastures. Most passes (with the
exception of the Lapsang La) are
relatively easy to cross. Should you
like to avoid the Lapsang La pass you
can opt for the Selele route from Tseram
to Ghunsa. You can enjoy views of the
majestic Kanchenjunga from the south and
the north.
